"Here to help you understand your dog,
and nurture a special friendship and connection
built on fun and foundations, foundations, foundations!"

Avril Young, PCT-A

Hiya!

Thank you for visiting my website! How exciting that you are looking for help to train your dog – no matter what age or stage!

My name is Avril, and I hold my PCT-A accreditation through the Pet Professional Accreditation Board. I am a full training member of several organisations renowned for their "do no harm" ethics, holding me accountable for both theoretical and practical skills. I commit to continual personal development each year to stay at the forefront of ethical dog training.

Puppies are my passion, and I am here to help you through the "pupodile" stage. Together, we will introduce foundational skills to help you and your puppy learn and grow together. Teenagers need a little extra help and support as they go through the next phase of their learning, and I love nothing better than working with dogs and their noses!

Scentwork and Mantrailing are sports I have practised and competed in with my Rhodesian Ridgeback, Mika, and her family before her. We use these skills not only for fun but also to help dogs who need that extra support and confidence.

I offer various training options, including classes and one-on-one sessions, for loose lead walking, recall, jumping up, enrichment games, tricks, and more. My goal is to help you and your dog build a strong, positive relationship through enjoyable and effective training.

With years of experience and a passion for helping dogs and their families, I bring a wealth of knowledge and a compassionate approach to dog training. I am a certified, accredited, and ethical dog trainer dedicated to using force-free methods that focus on building trust and understanding between dogs and their owners.

As a judge and assessor for several scentwork and mantrailing organisations, I’ve had the privilege of contributing to the community by promoting positive training techniques. My dogs and I have successfully competed in various disciplines, showcasing our skills in scentwork trials, mantrailing assessments, tricks titles and in the showring.

I currently live with my homebred Rhodesian Ridgeback, Mika, and my retired greyhound, Argento;  I understand the joys and challenges of dog ownership. I am committed to helping families build the best possible relationships with their dogs through fun and foundational training.

My Aim

My aim is to empower dog guardians to nurture and teach their dogs with compassion and understanding. We are committed to helping you build a strong, positive relationship with your canine companion through ethical, force-free training methods. Whether you're raising a new puppy, navigating the challenges of adolescence, or addressing specific behaviours in adult dogs or starting your journey into the world of nosework, we provide tailored support and expert guidance.

We incorporate nosework where needed and ensure that both dog and caregiver enjoy the experience. During our scentwork and mantrailing sessions, we focus on making learning fun and engaging for everyone involved. Our goal is to help you and your dog be the best you can be, fostering trust, confidence, and joy in your life together.
